Vegas was great this last weekend, even though it was cold and drizzly. We got to see Big Elvis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMuBVeQOLgc Our hotel room was really nice and we had a view out to the Bellagio fountains. Very cool! The fountains were playing to Christmas songs. Walked the strip with the relatives and found Zoltar machines! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Wm5-rAk-JI&feature=related

Cher was fabulous and the seats were to die for!! It was a good lively crowd but no big gay crowd to torment relatives with :-(

Back to work now and pooped. Four day weekend coming up for Christmas. Yay!

Going to go see Avatar in IMAX 3D this weekend.

New Moon

I went to see the midnight premier of New Moon last night. It was playing as a double-feature after Twilight. Went by myself cause I couldn't find anyone else obsessed enough ;-) I had such a blast! So fun to be in a theater packed with people as passionate as me. There was cheering and clapping. Loved it. Even if I did have to get some NoDoz to get through it. I took today off so was able to sleep in. I'm going to go see it again tomorrow with a lady friend. Oh yeah, and the movie is great! The wolves and the Volturi - awesome! And Edward finally looks as beautiful as I pictured him.

Grrrrr.... YeeHaw!!!!

Yes, manic depressive here ;-) I had to work today (Saturday) which really pisses me off. No good reason other than they wanted to get their stats up for work done. Then they set me to trying to fix someone else's crappy code. I was not a happy camper.

We narrowly averted a big grocery store strike here this week. I went to do my shopping and stock up good Friday after work in case they walked. Just wouldn't have felt comfortable crossing a picket line. Luckily they were able to settle. Whew.

Lets see... If I look a couple posts down I see that it is only 5 DAYS TILL NEW MOON!!! I am so psyched (or psycho). heh... I'm doing the double-feature with Twilight at 9pm then the midnight premier Thursday. Gonna work Thursday but I'm taking Friday off to recoup. Going to go by myself cause I couldn't talk any of my buddies into do it. I'll be hanging with the teenie-boppers and plan to have a ball :-)) You'ld come with me if you were here, wouldn't you Suse?

Not a lot else happening. No more pool time. Finally cooled down enough at night that it is too cold. I need to a little yard cleanup tomorrow cause our bulk trash pickup starts Monday. Would have got a lot more dragged out if I hadn't had to work today (back to grrr...).

Off to bed with my book and kitties.

Just had a late brunch with hubby. He is off to nap now. I'm doing laundry and reading the paper. Nice and quiet. Will probably go take a dip in the pool later. God, I love Arizona. Swimming near the end of September :-)

Its Friday!!

I love Friday :-) Can't wait to sleep in tomorrow. I've been sleeping like the dead this week. Actually had the alarm wake me up a couple days and that hasn't happened in ages. Even my fat cat is sleeping in. He jumps when the alarm goes off. Probably cause it is cooling down just a bit and staying darker a bit longer. Or maybe I'm just stealing Susie's sleep.

Got my advance tickets to the midnight showing of New Moon for Nov 19th today. WhooHoo! My sister calls me Freak, in a loving way ;-) I got an extra ticket in case I can con someone else into going with me. If not, it'll be me and the teenyboppers. heh...

Off to bed to watch an episode of Buffy. I borrowed the dvd's from a friend. Loving it.

lazy labor day

I was hoping we would get another cloudy, cooler day this weekend so that I could get some yard work done but it is sunny and hot. Guess I'll have to settle for lounging in the pool ;-)

So nice to have a 3 day weekend and to get paid for the holiday! Got my nails done Saturday and chores, yesterday went to lunch with a friend and laundry. Today I made a sour cream/apple coffee cake and some lemon/cream cheese bars. Put a nice pork roast in the crockpot this morning so supper will be easy. Still need to run the vacuum around but will wait for Den and the cats to finish napping first. Then pool and Judge Judy! WhooHoo!

I have been on an eating binge lately. Gotta knock it off and get back on the treadmill. Just so hard to get motivated sometimes. I have a trip to Vegas to see Cher in December with relatives so maybe that will do the trick.

Off to read a bit.

Out of the blue this afternoon my daughter called me at work to tell me that she and her guy had just got married! Bit of a surprise but makes sense for them. It will ease any immigration issues they might run into when renewing their visas. They have lived in Toronto, Canada for like 3 years now and been together for about 8 years. Sniff... I was hoping they would get married by Elvis in Vegas ;-)

Got the new tv and HD cable installed. Wow. Twilight in high def. Wow.

And speaking of Twilight, the new trailer is out for New Moon. It is gonna be killer! I am so going to the midnight show :-)

Ordered tickets to go see Cher in December with sister-in-law and her hubby and brother-in-law and his wife. Den will just gamble (not much of a Cher fan. Go figure.) It is gonna be a blast!

Off to bed.

THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!

From email. (If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!)

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious
diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what
with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning...Uphill...barefoot *BOTH ways.......

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way I
was going to lay a bunch of guilt like that on my kids about how hard I
had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but
look around and notice the youth of today! You've got it so easy! I
mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a fairytale land! And I
hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!

1. I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!

2. There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter
-with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put
it in the mailbox and it would take, like, a week to get there! Stamps
were 10 cents!

3. Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a
matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to
spank us if we needed it! Nowhere was safe!

4. There were no MP3' s or Napsters! If you wanted to steal music, you
had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself! Or
you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ
would usually talk over the beginning of the song! There were no CD
players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape
and "eject" it when finished and the tape would come undone.

5. We didn't have fancy Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and
somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

6. And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you
had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss,
a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

7. We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with
high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like
'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You
actually had to use your imagination!! And there were no multiple levels
or screens, it was just one screen... forever!
And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder
and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

8. You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!
You had it bad when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your
hind end and walk over to the TV to change the channel! NO REMOTES!!!

9. There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on
Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL
WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little brats!

10. And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we
had to use the stove! Imagine that!

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy.
You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980 or before!

Regards,
The Over 30 Crowd

back home

We just got home from a week in Montana. Went up for the wedding of my oldest niece and to visit mom. It was lovely up there but COLD! (for us desert rats anyway). Got to visit with my sisters and brother. Hadn't seen the Connecticut nephews (4) for years so that was nice. We were glad to get home. Beds up there were SO hard.

Just bought a new tv. Our old one kicked the bucket. Broke down and got a 40" Sony LCD. Figured since I was going to have to spend big bucks anyway we might as well get a decent one that will last a bit. They'll deliver and set up next week.

Just about have my weekend chores done. Going to go take a dip in the pool with my new goggles here shortly. Then just veg out for the night with tv and reading. I have to attack my stacks of papers this weekend. Time to sort and shred.

Back to work Monday as a full time employee. Feels good and a bit more stable. I'll have to figure out all the benefits stuff next week.

What a week. Went to work Thursday wearing some white pants. I don't wear them often cause they are a bit hot but what the heck. Get to work and discover that I am having my first period in like 4 months and gushed all over the white pants. Had to go into my young male boss's office and tell them that I needed to go home to work cause I had just messed my pants. It was mortifying. Wish my body would just be done with this shit. Gah!

Rest of the weekend was pretty nice. It was HOT here (like 115) so spent time in the pool, which I love. My tree guys came back and finished the job they were paid to do. Also had to have my block fence mended so that it wouldn't fall over and to kill and block out wasps that were nesting in holes in the blocks. I think I am finally winning the war on stinging insects. Don't seem to be near as many now.

Went to see the new Harry Potter today. It was really good, as expected. The last 2 are going to be awesome. Can't wait to see the big final battle.

Off to bed with my latest vampire love book :-)

So ends another weekend

It was nice. Got my nails done and grocery shopping done early yesterday then went with a friend to see the musical Wicked. It was SO good :-) I love doing that kind of stuff. Hubby doesn't get into it so it is nice to have an older single lady friend to go with. We'll be off to see Harry Potter later this week.

Today I fixed a good breakfast then we went to Barnes & Noble so hubby could get some books. Then home to vacuum, do laundry, clean cat boxes... all the fun mundane weekend stuff. Then went to the library to pick up an audio book I had on hold. I'm just finishing listening to Something Wicked This Way Comes (Bradbury). Very chilling and good. Also picked up one of my latest vampire romance novels, which I am off to read here shortly. Took a dip in the pool when chores were all done. It was near 115 today. Very toasty. The pool temp is over 90 now as it doesn't cool in the evenings much. Finally, logged into work and finished off a couple web tutorials that I needed to finish.

Getting ready to go to Montana in a few weeks. The eldest niece is getting hitched so will do the redneck wedding thing. Then will go up north to visit mom for a few days. I didn't get a chance to see her tucked into her new room at the memory care place so can't wait. She is doing so much better now. She is finally starting to join in their activities, which is what we were really hoping for.

Night!

busy Saturday

Woke up at about 5:30 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. I had some guys come trim trees and clean up yard yesterday. Hubby was home and overseeing but when I got home some of the main things I had wanted done weren't done. He had given them the money ($1,200)and they were gone. I was pissed. Luckily we know these folks well enough that I was able to talk to them today and tell them what the issues were so they will come back and fix. Still aggravating. Jeez, if you want something done right I guess you have to micro-manage. Grrr...

Anyway, got up early. Cleaned the pool while listening to tunes, which was very relaxing. While I was out there I saw a Tarantula Hawk! Very scary looking huge black wasp with red wings. It didn't bother me so I didn't bother it. It was kind of cool really. Did laundry and vacuumed using my fabulous new Dyson Animal vac. It is SO much easier to use than my old canister. Took a shower, went and had my nails done, did grocery shopping and ordered pizza for dinner. 8pm and I'm about off to bed. What an old fart I am. Hubby is already in bed so he is an older fart than me ;-)

Nothing to do tomorrow but read, lounge in the pool and relax. Ahhhh...

Another quiet weekend

Not much going on here lately. Just working, coming home and working some more. Working is a good thing :-) I should be converting from contract to full-time in August. Our state budget is in the tank. Lots of people, including some I know, losing their jobs. Very scary.
Oh, and since our state government is totally controlled by Republicans they are busy pushing through some very obnoxious legislation including some abortion restrictions that really piss me off. Hopefully the aclu or planned parenthood will take the case to court to stop them. Bastards.

I've been eating badly lately so have to shape up and get back on the treadmill this week. Pants are getting tight again. I went to Kmart and got a new pair of jeans and a pair of nice white pants for work plus a couple light blouses today. We get to dress pretty casual at work, which is nice.

We're going to Montana for a week in July/August. My niece is getting married. My Connecticut sister and her 4 boys are flying out too. Haven't seen them in ages. It will be nice. Will stop and visit mom for a couple days too. My lovely cat sitter lady will be tending to the fur kids while we are gone.

Been watching old home movies tonight. I had them put on vcr from the 8mm reels when my dad died. Now I need to get them put on dvd. Want to take a copy up to my uncle. So funny. They are from the late 50's and early 60s. I am the star of the show of course ;-)

I cashed in my amex points and got a Dyson dc25 animal vacuum this last week. It arrived yesterday and I tried it out today. SO much better than my old canaster. (plus now I may be able to get Den to vacuum once in a while too. heh. Wish me luck with that.) Really sucks up the cat hair.

Been reading like mad. Whipped through a whole series this month of erotic vampire warrior romances. I started going to the library again and am getting audio books to listen to on the way to work. It is pretty cool.

All in all, life is good.

A quiet Sunday

Slept in till 10ish then fixed up some breakfast. Now am enjoying a bit of coffee before I get the laundry going. Need to vacuum some pine needles out of the pool so we can have a little dip this afternoon.

I have to get my big trees trimmed. Gonna run about $900 but has to be done. I'm afraid one of them will break off onto the neighbors house if a big storm blows through. My Paloverdes are a mess. Have to get my back alley cleaned up too. I'm gonna hire someone to do it. We have had bee problems and I'd rather let someone else brave it ;-) If we get it all cleaned up I'm hoping that the bees will move on to other messier spots. Fucking bees. I hate em. They totally wreck my pool relaxing.

MTV movie awards tonight! WhooHoo! Gonna be a big Twilight night and will see the first trailer for New Moon!

relaxin...

So nice to have a 3 day weekend, even though I won't get paid for today. Still a contract to hire so only paid for the hours I work. It has already been almost 2 months since I started so hopefully will go full-time soon. Then I will have paid vacation, sick and holidays again! WhooHoo!

Anyway, back to relaxin... Slept in a bit today. My fat cat Oscar comes in and snoozes with me when I sleep in. When I turn over he tiptoes around to the other side too. Got up and read the paper. Plugged in my work laptop to make sure that I can actually log in from home and it worked. Promptly packed it back up ;-) Went and checked all my Twilight/New Moon sites. Yes, I'm still compulsive. Gotta have my fix. Now have laundry going and am going to go finish my book and watch Underworld: Rise of the Lycans while hubby naps. Then gonna cook up a turkey breast I got on sale dirt cheap a couple weeks ago. To top it all off I get to watch Judge Judy today :-) I love Judge Judy.

Planning a short trip to Montana end of July to go to my niece's wedding. Will do a quicky visit to Mom while we are up there too. We have Allegient Air here now so can fly non-stop up there for dirt cheap. Excellent...

Oink.

Got my first paycheck in 2 months today! WhooHoo! Job is improving verrrryyyyy sssllloooowwwwllllyyyy. Hurry up and wait all the time. Very tiresome. I've started just tracking down people on my own. To heck with waiting for my "supervisor" who supervises nothing. I've been listening to my Twilight audio book while commuting. My drive isn't any longer but sure seems like it when I'm parked on the freeway in rush hour traffic.

I got on my treadmill tonight. Haven't been good about doing it for some weeks but I decided that it would be a good stress buster. Might sleep a bit better.

We got our fence fixed. As I write this I just heard a tremendous crash over on the next street. This is getting ridiculous. Hope no one was hurt.

Oh yeah, we have Swine Flu here. They closed an elementary school just down the road from us today for a week. Told my fragile hubby that he better be careful and wash his hands a lot.

Finally!

Got my laptop at work today so I can finally start doing something other than sitting and twiddling my thumbs for 8+ hours a day. Only half day tomorrow as they take off for Good Friday.

On a totally different note, we had someone plow into our yard and take out our block fence and shed a couple mornings ago at about 4am. Bastards actually managed to back out and get away after, leaving a trail and blocks all over the driveway and street. We didn't even hear it ;-) The neighbors came pounding on our door to tell us. Could have been much worse. At least it didn't hit the house. Got people coming to haul away the remains and fix the wall tomorrow. Insurance will probably cover it but since we have a $500 deductible it may not be worth it.

I love my job. I love my job. I love my job...

Okay, so far I have spent 3 days staring out the window because I have no computer at work. Talk about piss poor planning. Not bitching though. I am being very well paid to nap at my desk ;-) I got a window cube, which is very nice.

Twilight heaven

Saturday is the big day! There is going to be a live auction of a bunch of stuff at the event including Stephanie Meyer's Eclipse prom dress and lunch with Stephanie. There are a couple of fans coming to Phoenix to battle it out for the dress, which should be great fun. I'm going in with another local "Twilight Mom" to bid on the lunch with Stephanie. No idea how high the bidding is going to go on these things. Here is a link to the event http://projectbookbabe.com/ My daughter used to work with the lady that this is a benefit for. Can you tell I'm excited? Heh...

Relaxing

I will start work at my new job on Monday. I'm going to work for Apollo Group (University of Phoenix) as a programmer/analyst in their financials section. Going to be awesome! The commute will be a bit of a drag as I have to do the freeway during rush hour. Small price to pay.

Now I have the rest of the week to do whatever. Gotta get motivated to do anything that is physical though ;-) Have a new series of books started so going to read a bit. Should do some yardwork but don't know that I will. I need to file a bunch of papers too.

Saturday is my author event where I will get to see Stephanie Meyer and others :-)) Going to get a signed book of hers as part of the deal. There is also a raffle where you can win entrance to a reception with all the authors with personalized signed books from all. How cool would that be?

The interview went really well, I think. They will have the decision by the end of this week. Man I am insecure these days. I am having an extra glass of wine tonight. Then I think I will go watch my Twilight dvd and settle down.
